A bridge that is designed and built to a high standard can still lose years of service life if its maintenance programme is weak — deterioration, not construction quality, is usually what determines how long a bridge actually lasts. This training course works from that premise, giving participants a practical grounding in bridge engineering that links design and structural analysis decisions directly to how a bridge will perform, deteriorate, and get maintained over decades of service.
Participants build applied skills in bridge design and structural analysis, working through span, loading, and site considerations for common bridge types, before moving into construction sequencing and the practical challenges that arise on bridge sites. A significant part of the course is dedicated to reading deterioration signs early, selecting the right maintenance or rehabilitation response, and understanding how individual bridges function within a wider regional infrastructure network.
