A boundary dispute between two landowners, a national infrastructure plan, and a city's zoning map all rest on the same foundation: accurate spatial data. When that data is managed manually, small errors compound across large areas and years of records – which is exactly the gap computer-based surveying and planning tools were built to close.
Spatial planning emerged in the second half of the 19th century alongside the industrial revolution and matured into a full field by the mid-20th century. It is inherently interdisciplinary, bringing together geographers, architects, landscape designers, construction managers, environmentalists, and economists to shape sustainable communities and places where people live, work, and move.
Urban and spatial planners today work across housing, economic development, environmental protection, and infrastructure – and increasingly rely on computer applications to manage surveying activities, model risk in large areas, and evaluate the relationships between logistical and production systems.
The Arab British Fellowship Training Academy presents this course for professionals who want practical skills in applying information technology to surveying and spatial planning work.
