Training Programme

Geotechnical Risk, Site Investigation and Foundation Design Training Course

1Summary

Trace almost any structural failure back far enough, and it often leads to the ground — a site investigation that missed a weak layer, or data that wasn't read correctly before the foundation was designed. This training course is built around that reality, giving participants a complete, practical grounding in geotechnical engineering that treats site investigation as the foundation of every safe design decision, not a formality that happens before the real work starts.

Participants strengthen their understanding of soil mechanics as the science behind ground behaviour, and build hands-on skill in planning and interpreting site investigations that produce genuinely reliable data. The course then connects that data directly to foundation design and geotechnical analysis, bearing capacity, settlement, and slope stability, and covers ground improvement techniques for the site conditions that need more than a standard foundation solution.

This program is delivered by Arab British Fellowship Training Academy through its Geotechnical Risk, Site Investigation and Foundation Design Training Course, designed to build well-rounded, practical geotechnical capability for civil and structural engineers.

2Objectives and target group

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how gaps in site investigation translate into geotechnical and structural risk.
  • Understand fundamental soil mechanics concepts and their design implications.
  • Plan and interpret site investigation programmes for construction projects.
  • Apply foundation engineering principles to shallow and deep foundation design.
  • Perform geotechnical analysis, bearing capacity, settlement and slope stability, to support design decisions.
  • Identify ground conditions requiring improvement and select appropriate ground improvement methods.

Target Group

  • Geotechnical and civil engineers involved in foundation and ground engineering
  • Structural engineers coordinating with geotechnical design
  • Site investigation and ground engineering professionals
  • Foundation design engineers and consultants
  • Engineers building specialised expertise in geotechnical practice
