Managing International Patients and Medical Tourism Training Course

1Summary

A patient who flies abroad for surgery is neither a typical tourist nor a typical patient: they are navigating a foreign healthcare system and unfamiliar logistics while trying to trust providers they have never met in person, all under real anxiety about their own health. Managing that experience well is what Medical Tourism is actually about, and it sits at an intersection that neither the healthcare industry nor the hospitality industry manages alone particularly well. The Managing International Patients and Medical Tourism Training Course, delivered by the Arab British Fellowship Training Academy, is built for professionals responsible for that experience from first enquiry to the patient's return home.

The course treats medical tourism as a hybrid discipline that combines healthcare coordination with hospitality-level service expectations. Participants learn how healthcare travel logistics differ fundamentally from standard tourism, coordinating providers, accommodation, and transport around a patient's treatment schedule; how wellness tourism connects to but differs from medical tourism in scope; and how to manage international patients navigating language, culture, and healthcare system differences. Participants leave with a practical framework for protecting patient safety and experience across the entire journey.
