Training Course in Oil and Gas Field Development and Production Systems
1Summary
From the moment a reservoir is discovered to the day oil or gas reaches an export terminal, dozens of engineering and business decisions shape how efficiently – and safely – that resource is produced. This Arab British Fellowship Training Academy course walks participants through that entire journey, connecting subsurface decisions to the surface facilities, processing systems and export routes that depend on them.
The programme covers primary surface production systems, from pipelines to export terminals and tankers, alongside both onshore and offshore production – fixed structures, floating systems and subsea engineering. It also introduces the fundamentals of project development, uncertainty and risk management, and health, safety and environment (HSE) considerations, giving attendees a solid grounding in operations management across a field's entire lifecycle.
2Objectives and target group
Who Should Attend?
- Facilities or process engineers – graduates or more experienced technical professionals – looking to develop theoretical competence.
- Project managers seeking a greater understanding of the process and mechanical design of plants.
- Operations engineers looking to deepen their knowledge of plant design principles.
- Engineers seeking to broaden their technical knowledge.
How attendees will benefit?
After completion of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Understand the different types of oil and gas reservoirs and how they can be developed, and link subsurface development choices to surface handling and export facilities.
- Appreciate the technical differences between major offshore production concepts – fixed structures, floating systems and subsea systems – and describe typical onshore production systems, pipelines, export terminals and tanker transport.
- Describe the components and processes involved in drilling and producing oil and gas, and explain the exploration, production and operation concepts of the industry.
- Apply the principles of project development, including handling uncertainty, risk, and the basics of HSE management, and appreciate the role of operations in managing wells and reservoir production throughout the field's life.
- Demonstrate competency with electrical equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, fluid dynamics equipment, pumps and compressors, and oil and gas instrumentation and processing equipment, and diagnose, communicate and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions effectively.
- Apply the skills necessary to gain employment in the drilling, production, service and safety segments of the oil industry, and apply critical thinking in making decisions and solving problems.
