Insurance Company Accounting, Risk, and Investment Evaluation Course

1Summary

Insurance, at its core, is organized cooperation: a large pool of insured people facing similar risks, with the insurer responsible for structuring that cooperation on sound technical grounds — estimating premiums accurately enough to cover real losses without dipping into its own capital. Getting that right depends on solid accounting and a clear-eyed view of risk.

This course looks at how accounting functions inside an insurance company — its components, principles, and the qualities that make a good insurance accountant — alongside a practical framework for risk management: assessment methods, precautions, and how risk connects to company policy. It closes with the financial side of decision-making, covering how insurance companies evaluate projects and investment opportunities before committing capital.
