Crude Oil Purification and Refining Operations Course
1Summary
Crude oil straight out of the ground is worthless. What makes it valuable is everything that happens next — separating components by molecular weight and boiling point, stripping out sulfur, nitrogen, and oxygen compounds, and running it through distillation and desulphurisation until it becomes the fuel that powers daily life. This course is built around that transformation process, for people who work in oil production facilities and refineries.
During extraction, oil comes mixed with gases and impurities that must be removed using pumps, heat exchangers, and thermostats, eliminating hydrophobic and hydrophilic substances along the way. Refineries do this work diligently to control equipment corrosion, cut air pollution, meet local demand, and stay competitive in export markets. There is a real cost to getting it wrong: even a small oil spill can contaminate huge volumes of water and seriously harm marine life, which is why protective measures inside oil facilities matter as much as the refining process itself. The Arab British Fellowship Training Academy designed this course to build both the technical and environmental sides of that responsibility.
