From Data to Wisdom: A Training Course in Information Management Systems (IMS)

1Summary

Data on its own is just numbers and text. Once it is processed, it becomes information — and once that information is combined with a person’s experience and skill, it becomes knowledge, the real starting point for sound judgement. Information management sits exactly at that turning point: it is not a piece of software or a specific technology like IS or IT, but a set of activities, processes and practices aimed at making an institution more efficient with everything it knows, whether that knowledge is stored electronically or not.

With the sheer volume of information now flowing through the internet and modern communication channels, organising and reusing it — for decisions today and for predicting what comes next — has become a real operational challenge. This course covers how institutions manage that full information lifecycle, and how they keep it confidential along the way.
