Advancing Risk Management Performance in Insurance Companies

1Summary

Insurers carry other people's risk for a living, which makes a weak risk management function doubly dangerous — it exposes both the company's own balance sheet and every policyholder counting on it. The Arab British Fellowship Training Academy designed its Advancing Risk Management Performance in Insurance Companies course to close that gap, equipping insurance professionals with practical standards for identifying, measuring, and responding to risk inside an underwriting environment.

The course treats risk management as an ongoing cycle of identification, measurement, and assessment, paired with strategies to transfer, prevent, minimise, or absorb potential losses. Participants examine how these strategies apply specifically to insurance operations, where risk is not just managed but is the product itself.

2Objectives and target group

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply contemporary financial auditing methods and connect them to how insurance companies steer their operations.
  • Detect the risks and irregularities that company auditors and financial reviewers are positioned to uncover.
  • Explain the role internal audit offices play in helping an insurer avoid costly financial exposure.
  • Review financial reports critically and flag errors made by company accountants.

Who should attend:

  • Owners and directors of large commercial and industrial companies, including insurers.
  • General managers in public and private companies.
  • Heads of internal audit offices and audit departments.
  • Financial control staff at every level.
  • Students exploring contemporary approaches to financial auditing and risk detection.
