Econometrics in Practice: A Course for Working Professionals

1Summary

Economic theory looks clean on paper, but the moment you try to test it against real data — messy, incomplete, full of outliers — it gets complicated fast. This course focuses on that gap: the practical, hands-on side of empirical assessment, where economic relationships get interpreted, evaluated and put to actual use in decision-making.

Delivered by the Arab British Fellowship Training Academy, the course is built for working researchers and analysts who need applied econometric skills, not just theory, and who want to walk away with the analytical tools decision-makers actually use.

2Objectives and target group

Who is this course for?

Researchers and analysts working in any of the following economic fields: development economics, general financial and tax policy, social and health economics, financial markets, and international trade and finance.

What you will be able to do by the end:

  • Build and test regression models, including the use of dummy variables and handling structural breaks in the data.
  • Diagnose and correct for violations of the classical regression assumptions.
  • Apply co-integration techniques and error-correction models when time-series data contain a unit root.
  • Sit a practical, open-book assessment on the final day and earn a certificate of completion.
