Staying Safe: A Practical Course in Survival Skills for Crime Victims
1Summary
A bank teller facing a robbery, a sales representative traveling alone, a flight crew member managing a disruptive passenger — danger rarely gives advance notice. Many employees work in environments where violence, theft or hostage situations are a real possibility, and reacting well in that moment depends entirely on skills learned beforehand, not instinct alone. This course from the Arab British Fellowship Training Academy was designed to reduce the chance of becoming a victim and to prepare participants to handle violent situations calmly and safely.
The course also frames this preparation within risk management: identifying, measuring and evaluating risk, then developing strategies to transfer it, prevent it, minimize its impact, or absorb its consequences where necessary. Ultimately, it is about controlling risk and pushing it down to an acceptable level before, during and after a dangerous encounter.
