Training Course on Heat Pump Design, Installation, and Compliance (Online / Remote)

1Summary

A heat pump that's installed incorrectly won't just underperform — it can fail health and safety checks and cost far more to run than it should, which is why installers, inspectors, and designers all need a recognised qualification behind them. This Arab British Fellowship Training Academy programme is a nationally recognised qualification covering the design, installation, and maintenance requirements of heat pump systems, delivered by a team of internationally experienced energy engineers.

This certification course gives participants up-to-date knowledge of the benefits of heat pump systems, how to design heat pump installations, and how to use simulation tools effectively, enabling success locally and internationally in the renewable energy and heat pump industries.

2Objectives and target group

Who Should Attend?

  • Installers, maintenance companies, and designers working with heat pump systems.
  • Building inspectors and inspectors who need to verify safe heat pump installations.
  • Anyone who has a basic or advanced understanding of the industry and needs to know how to install a heat pump safely.

Course Objectives

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Apply health and safety requirements and the laws and regulations concerning heat pump systems.
  • Install domestic equipment and heat pumps in line with current standards.
  • Carry out heat pump maintenance and commissioning, applying basic refrigeration principles.
  • Conduct security checks and system stability checks, and identify common installation errors.

3Course Content

Module 1: What Is Heat, and Where Does the Market Stand?

  • What is heat? Physical basics (components, technology types).
  • Overview of markets, resources, and targets.

Module 2: Design Choices

  • Design advice: sizing, selection, autonomy, storage, and manufacturer.
  • Other types: Geothermal Energy Storage (UTES) and underground waterways.
  • Solar-assisted geothermal heat pumps.

Module 3: Impact, Finance, and Incentives

  • Environmental impact and analysis.
  • Finance, regulation, and incentives (MCS, RHI).

Module 4: Applying the Knowledge

  • Case studies and best practice analysis.
  • Simulation tools, norms, standard references, and further reading.
  • Industry associations and support available to practitioners.
