Training Course in Electric Vehicle Technology and Battery Systems (Online / Remote)
1Summary
Every electric vehicle on the road is really a battery and a motor wrapped around a set of engineering trade-offs — cell chemistry, thermal behaviour, charging speed and cost all pulling against each other. Understanding how those trade-offs are managed is what separates a good EV design from one that fails in the field.
This training course from the Arab British Fellowship Training Academy, delivered by a team of internationally experienced energy engineers, gives participants up-to-date knowledge on assessing the benefits of EV adoption and understanding the EV and charging market. It also draws on engineering, sociology, environmental science, political science, economics and business administration to help participants assess, analyse and implement the diffusion of electric vehicles in relation to their use, preparing them for success locally and internationally in the electric vehicle industry.
2Objectives and target group
Who Should Attend
- Professionals with a basic or advanced understanding of the industry.
- Mechanical and electrical engineers, designers and project managers working on or transitioning to hybrid and electric powertrain development.
What You Will Be Able to Do
- Analyse the basic electrochemistry of battery operation and performance requirements for HEV, PHEV, EREV and fully electric vehicles, and estimate cell size and temperature behaviour accordingly.
- Build a cradle-to-grave or cradle-to-use materials list for each type of automotive battery.
- Describe the functions of the Battery Management System (BMS) and the approaches used to estimate state-of-charge, health, power and energy.
- Apply brushless DC and induction motor operation, torque-speed curves, and buck, boost and transformer converters to HEV and EV design.
- Compare industry and regulatory standards for hybrid vehicle components, batteries and charging systems.
- Define key vehicle system requirements and select and size the components that best meet them.
