Defending Wireless Networks: A Countermeasures Training Course (Online / Remote)

1Summary

An unencrypted access point left exposed for even a few hours can give an attacker everything they need to intercept traffic, hijack sessions or plant a rogue device inside a corporate network. Because wireless signals travel beyond walls and cannot be physically contained the way a wired connection can, the margin for error is thinner than most IT teams assume.

This is the practical starting point for the Arab British Fellowship Training Academy's course on wireless network defense: strong passwords and basic encryption are no longer enough on their own. What organisations need instead is a layered, tailored set of countermeasures built to keep pace with attacks that keep evolving—covering passive and active defenses, detection techniques, incident response, and the longer-term work of building a more resilient wireless environment.

2Objectives and target group

Who Should Attend:

  • Information security officers, network administrators and wireless infrastructure managers in public and private organisations.
  • Cybersecurity analysts and defense engineers.
  • IT auditors, compliance professionals, and anyone looking to build deeper technical expertise in wireless security.

By the End of the Programme, You'll Be Able To:

  • Analyze both common and advanced threats in wireless environments, and understand how attack methods actually impact infrastructure.
  • Design and implement countermeasures based on real risk assessment, then use monitoring and analysis tools to catch suspicious activity early.
  • Protect access points from tampering, respond quickly to wireless-based incidents, and apply flexible policies that adapt as threats change.
  • Continuously evaluate and strengthen the effectiveness of your security controls.

3Course Content

Module 1: Where Wireless Networks Are Exposed

  • Access point infrastructure, communication channels and endpoint devices as the weak links.
  • Signal coverage, leakage, eavesdropping and session hijacking as core transmission risks.
  • Foundational security layers: confidentiality, privacy and access control.

Module 2: Locking Down Access and Encryption

  • Access restrictions through allow/deny lists and device authorization.
  • Firmware updates, patch management and secure WPA3 encryption settings.
  • Multi-factor authentication, network segmentation and transmission control.

Module 3: How Wireless Networks Get Attacked

  • Spoofing through rogue access points and user deception.
  • Denial-of-service tactics such as signal jamming and network flooding.
  • Intrusion and espionage: traffic monitoring, breaking encryption, intercepting data.

Module 4: Detecting Trouble Before It Spreads

  • Network monitoring tools for packet capture, logging and frequency analysis.
  • Spotting unusual traffic, unauthorized devices and repeated login attempts.
  • Telling internal risk sources apart from external, unauthorized actors.

Module 5: Neutralizing Rogue and Untrusted Devices

  • Detecting rogue access points and spoofed MAC addresses.
  • Blocking automatic connections and monitoring network history.
  • Locating, filtering and removing untrusted devices from the network.

Module 6: Responding When an Attack Happens

  • Real-time detection through alerts and Wireless Intrusion Detection Systems (WIDS).
  • Tracing the attack origin, breach pathways and extracting session data.
  • Isolating and containing compromised devices, then documenting the incident.

Module 7: Building Long-Term Resilience

  • Secure encryption protocols (WPA3, AES-CCMP) and sound key management.
  • User identity verification, comprehensive security policies and context-aware access control.
  • Regulatory compliance, IoT security, AI-driven threat detection and proactive update strategies.
