Managing Materials and Risk in Engineering Projects: A Training Course (Online / Remote)
1Summary
In heavy industries such as oil, gas, mining and utilities, materials routinely make up more than half of a capital project's total spend, yet they remain one of the most overlooked elements of project planning. That oversight is exactly why so many capital expenditure projects run late. This training course from the Arab British Fellowship Training Academy tackles the problem head-on, focusing on how material management is integrated into the project plan, from planning and preliminary design through procurement, vendor monitoring, construction and final liquidation.
Because material decisions cannot be separated from the risks surrounding them, the course also builds a practical grounding in project risk management: identifying, measuring and assessing risk, then developing strategies to transfer, prevent or absorb its impact. Participants leave with the ability to keep risk at acceptable levels while keeping material costs and schedules under control.
2Objectives and target group
Who Should Attend
- Purchasing and procurement managers responsible for major engineering projects within their companies.
- Project managers who depend on the efficiency of their organization's internal supply chain.
- Managers in other departments whose work connects to large projects, plus senior staff and anyone whose professional development involves supply or project management.
Course Objectives
- Understand how capital project expenditure is developed, planned and executed.
- Manage the organizational issues that affect purchasing and supply performance across the project's life cycle, including the long-term execution phase.
- Distinguish between routine purchasing (for maintenance and operations) and project-related purchasing.
- Advise project management on the full range of procurement, transport and logistics issues, from initial liquidation questions through surplus management.
- Recommend suitable purchasing strategies, and use different purchasing tools and techniques appropriate to different project situations.
