Historic quarters across the region are losing ground every year to unplanned expansion, neglect, and rushed redevelopment — and the professionals who can step in before a heritage building is lost are still in short supply. The Arab British Fellowship Training Academy designed the Urban Heritage Conservation and Adaptive Reuse Certification Programme to close exactly that gap, building the judgment and technical skill needed to read a site's historical and architectural value and act on it responsibly.
Rather than treating heritage as a subject to memorize, the programme works through real conservation scenarios: assessing a building's condition, choosing between restoration and adaptive reuse, and applying international charters within a modern urban development context. Graduates leave equipped to contribute to restoration, documentation, and reuse projects that keep heritage sites relevant without stripping them of their authentic value.
