Every solar panel looks roughly the same from a distance - a dark, reflective rectangle - but what happens inside that rectangle is where the real differences in cost, efficiency and durability are decided. Silicon still dominates the market, yet thin-film materials, perovskites and other emerging chemistries are steadily closing the gap, each with its own trade-offs between efficiency, manufacturing cost and long-term stability.
This course provided by the Arab British Fellowship Training Academy takes participants inside that rectangle. It covers the physics of the photovoltaic effect, the material families competing for market share today, how cells are designed and assembled into full systems, and the metrics used to judge whether one technology genuinely outperforms another.
Participants will also look outward, at how material choice ripples into cost, lifecycle environmental impact, and the policy and market forces shaping where photovoltaic technology goes next - equipping them to make informed decisions whether they design systems, fund them, or set the policies that govern them.
