The word "logistics" has a longer history than most people assume — it traces back to the ancient Greek "logos" and the Latin "logisticus", reportedly used even by Plato, and was first recorded in 1614 in connection with reasoning, then in 1656 for early mathematical calculation methods. By 1727 those ideas had developed further, and the military eventually adopted the term to describe combining two things every flow of goods depends on: time and place.
That combination — getting the right thing to the right place at the right time — is still what logistics management is about today, whether inside a government body or a private company. This course builds a full working knowledge of supply and transport operations, so participants can run logistics functions with real command of both the concepts and the day-to-day mechanics behind them.
