Going Digital in Purchasing: A Practical Training Course on E-Procurement Systems

Summary

Paper-based purchasing is slow, hard to audit, and increasingly out of step with how modern organisations operate. Moving the procurement cycle online — from requesting a quote to signing off on a supplier — cuts delays, tightens control over spend, and leaves a clear digital trail for every transaction. This practical training course walks participants through the tools, models and safeguards that make an e-procurement system work in real organisational life, not just on paper.

Delivered by the Arab British Fellowship Training Academy, the course also addresses the legal side of digital purchasing: how digital signatures are issued and verified, and why electronic tendering still has to respect the same rules of fairness and transparency that govern traditional bidding. Participants leave able to help their organisation plan, launch and run an e-procurement system with confidence.

Objectives and target group

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain what e-procurement is and how it differs from traditional purchasing.
  • Compare the main e-procurement models — buyer-side, seller-side, and marketplace — and when each fits.
  • Identify the factors that push an organisation toward (or away from) adopting e-procurement.
  • Run the day-to-day activities of an e-procurement process, from vendor selection to order completion.
  • Use the main tools and technologies that support electronic purchasing.
  • Understand what a digital signature is, who issues it, and why it matters for e-tenders.

This course is designed for:

  • Procurement and purchasing managers.
  • Key staff and specialists working in public procurement.
  • Finance and capital management employees.
