Training Course on Electrical Systems for Renewable Energy Installations (Online / Remote)

Summary

Knowing how a solar panel or wind turbine works is one thing — being confident enough in the electrical side to specify an installation, discuss a project with a manufacturer, and comply with current safety regulations is another. This Arab British Fellowship Training Academy programme is built for exactly that gap, giving participants the electrical grounding they need to work with renewable technologies without relying entirely on a supplier's word.

By the end of the course, participants can think through installation and specification decisions and discuss projects with renewable technology manufacturers and suppliers with real confidence. This accredited course provides up-to-date knowledge of installing electrical systems for renewable energy, understanding on-grid and off-grid connections, and complying with current safety regulations, preparing participants for local and international success and delivered by a team of internationally experienced energy engineers.

Objectives and target group

Who Should Attend?

  • M&E contractors, owners, directors, sole proprietors, and factory or building managers.
  • Building engineers and engineers working in building service companies.
  • Professionals with a keen interest in renewable systems, security equipment, and the electrical side of controls, or those who need a deep technical understanding.

Course Objectives

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the basics of traditional power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
  • Describe the importance and role of renewable energy today, and how to make the most of natural resources.
  • Compare the component architecture between solar and wind power systems.
  • Identify the types, characteristics, and mechanisms of different renewable energy sources and their benefits.
  • Assess the suitability of introducing renewable power generation into a given facility.

Course Content

Module 1: Electrical Fundamentals

  • Voltage, current and how to measure it, AC and DC, resistance.
  • Inductance and capacitance in AC and DC circuits.
  • Effect and calculation of voltage drop.
  • Working with multimeters, current clamps, and shunts, including hands-on exercises.

Module 2: Off-Grid DC Renewable Systems

  • System architecture and battery selection.
  • Calculating cable size and measuring voltage drop.
  • Overcurrent, overvoltage, and grounding protection.
  • Safe operation, installation, and convenient measurement of PV power.

Module 3: Grid-Connected Systems

  • Different types of generator inverters (asynchronous and synchronous).
  • Effect of power factor and safety considerations.
  • PV installation guidelines, installation standards, and connection/wiring standards.

Module 4: AC Safety

  • Grounding methods and their effects.
  • Safe operation and installation practices.
