A single case of measles, rotavirus or seasonal flu in a nursery classroom can spread to a dozen children within days — and the adults responsible for that room are rarely trained to catch it early or contain it before it does. Schools, clinics and children's hospitals face this reality year-round, yet formal training on paediatric infectious disease often stops at basic first aid.
According to the World Health Organization, seasonal influenza alone causes 3 to 5 million severe cases worldwide every year and over half a million deaths, alongside major economic costs; foodborne illness can trigger anything from short-term vomiting and diarrhoea to long-term kidney failure, cancer or neurological damage, with children, pregnant women, the elderly and the immunocompromised at greatest risk. Children who survive the more severe cases can carry lasting physical and developmental effects. This Training Course by the Arab British Fellowship Training Academy equips the people responsible for children's health and safety with the practical grounding to recognise, prevent and respond to infectious disease before it becomes an outbreak.
