Why do businesses now spend more on a Facebook page than on a billboard? Because trade migrated to the network long before social media existed — and understanding that shift is what turns a page or account into an actual sales channel.
This course, delivered by the Arab British Fellowship Training Academy, traces that shift from early networked trade among American firms in the early 20th century, through the 1970s rise of electronic money transfer (still limited to commercial organisations and a handful of major companies), to Electronic Data Interchange widening e-commerce beyond pure finance. Email, computer networks and the digital revolution then spread through the 1980s and accelerated in the 1990s, eventually producing the social networking platforms that carry e-commerce today.
