Oil and Gas Pipeline Technology and Operations Course (Online / Remote)

Summary

Moving oil by pipeline beats moving it by tanker on cost alone, which is exactly why pipelines have become the preferred method for transporting oil and natural gas since the technology first appeared — over land and under water alike. That single economic advantage reshaped the industry: lower long-term crude prices, less reliance on manual labour, and steadily rising use of technology in transportation.

This course focuses on pipeline technology and international standards within the oil industry, built to give the business market qualified professionals through hands-on, direct training. Crude oil itself is mostly hydrocarbons of varying molecular size, formed from ancient organic remains buried under heat and pressure over time into today's large reservoirs — and every stage of moving it by pipeline carries environmental responsibility, since even a small leak can contaminate vast amounts of water and seriously disrupt marine life. The Arab British Fellowship Training Academy designed this programme to cover both the engineering and the environmental sides of that responsibility.

Objectives and target group

Who Should Attend

  • Workers across all energy fields, and pipe technology supervisors in oil industries.
  • Design and construction engineers, and new investors looking for fresh opportunities.
  • Chemical engineering and petroleum engineering staff, and juniors in oil, gas, and mining.
  • Staff working in petroleum facility security, environmental control, and quality control.

What Participants Will Be Able to Do Afterwards

  • Apply the most practical methods in pipeline technology for transferring oil over long distances.
  • Identify pipe types and their core components, mainly pumping stations and the pipeline itself.
  • Recognise the materials used in oil pipes and the physical conditions required for their durability.
  • Apply the principles of oil refining and separation, and understand the economics of pipeline technology.

Course Content

Module 1: Oil's Journey — Discovery to Pipeline

  • The history of oil and its discovery.
  • Costs of oil production and its various kinds.

Module 2: Pipelines vs. Other Transport Methods

  • The benefits of oil pipes over tankers and storage tanks.
  • The economics and flexibility of transporting oil through pipelines.

Module 3: Refining and Investment Strategy

  • The refining industry, and company strategies for optimal oil investment.
  • Competition and expansion in the sector.

Module 4: From Crude to Pipeline-Ready Oil

  • Classifying and processing crude oil.
  • Preparing oil for refining, and hydrophobic and hydrophilic terms.

Module 5: Leak Prevention and Environmental Protection

  • Causes of oil leaks and methods of prevention, including water pollution prevention.
  • Causes of oil contamination, and the foundations for successful protection methods.

Module 6: Costing and Financial Management in Oil Operations

  • Listing and creating financial statements for oil-building and extraction work costs.
  • Developing accounting skills for petroleum stock costs, and drafting refinery costs.
  • Creative methods to reduce the general cost of extraction and petroleum derivatives.
